Living Life Indoors. Dreaming of the Outdoors

Confidence Building

Want to push yourself a little bit further and increase your overall confidence?

We all lack confidence in some areas, it’s a normal human reaction to situations.  However, we shouldn’t let that hold us back.

Confidence is a belief in oneself, the conviction that one has the ability to meet life’s challenges and to succeed—and the willingness to act accordingly.

Being confident requires a realistic sense of one’s capabilities and feeling secure in that knowledge.

Projecting confidence helps people gain credibility, make a strong first impression, deal with pressure, and tackle personal and professional challenges. It’s also an attractive trait, as confidence helps put others at ease.

Combining experiences in the outdoors (walking/camping) can be the trigger to many people for them to understand how to build their confidence.

Confidence Building – doing something you never thought would, under expert guidance.

This isn’t about putting people into stressful situations such as abseiling or cliff jumping.  It’s about introducing in a graduated and safe way, individual challenges that can be overcome with help and support from a professional.

No peer pressure to jump off that cliff for instance (and it is often peer pressure that is the reason) means that individuals will learn much more about themselves by conquering those fears and moving forward. 1-1 or 1-2 work is much more suitable for confidence-building that 1-many in a peer pressure group.

It could be as simple as an 8-10 mile walk in the outdoors to give people that sense of achievement, and thus self-confidence that they can achieve.

It could be a much shorter distance.  “The journey of 1,000 miles starts with one step.“

It could be getting to the top of a mountain whilst carrying enough to be safe in all weathers on the Welsh mountains or even an overnight camping experience to build self-confidence and self-reliance.

Starting a fire using the most basic materials, building a simple shelter that can provide protection. All of these things build self-reliance and the confidence that, with the correct mindfullness approach, anything can be achieved by anyone.
